Cultural life

Leytonstone has attracted young artists looking for low cost housing, and this was particularly available in the later 1980s and early 1990s 1 before construction of a dual carriageway linking the M11 at Redbridge with the Blackwall Tunnel Approach Road at Hackney Wick.  Internationally recognised artist Cornelia Parker was living in Leytonstone in the 1990s.  On BBC Radio's 'Desert Island Discs' in February 2007 (Sue Lawley as presenter) she chose excerpts from ‘159 to 161’ by Graeme Miller, creator of the ‘Linked’ audio installation in Leytonstone.
