Comedy actress and writer Meera Syal MBE used to live in Leytonstone facing a part of Epping Forest, Forest Glade, but she had a low opinion of the area. The first line of her year 2000 book ‘Life Isn't All Ha Ha Hee Hee’ reads "Not even snowfall could make Leyton look lovely."
